Cherry Packing: What Happens to Cherries After they are Harvested?
The Flavor Tree Fruit Company and shows all of the steps that a cherry goes through during the packing process. The fruit is dumped into sanitized wash water, where they continue on the conveyor, the bunches are cut, the fruit is sorted and the bad quality cherries are culled while the doubles and spurs are sorted for another market, the cherries continue to a hydrocooler to remove any residual field heat, are sorted by an optimal sorter for size and quality, and based on the size, are sent to specific packing lines.
