Sheet Mulching Method to Transform Vacant Land in detroit into an urban farm

We used the sheet mulching method to transform vacant land into an urban farm in the City of Detroit. This method involves spreading cardboard on top of the grass and putting woodchips on top. We are very proud of the fact that we never mowed these lots, We put the cardboard down in the spring and it killed the grass underneath within a couple months. Yes, weeds will still persevere eventually, but this will make pulling the weeds much easier because their roots will be weakened by the mulch.
